Tune-Up Plan Sign-Ups With the Card Captured: Billing That Starts on Your Website
The best time to get a card on file is the moment a customer decides they want your service. For a yearly tune-up plan, that moment usually happens on your website or right after a repair, when the homeowner is thinking about their door. If signing up and saving a card happen together, billing for the plan is set up before anyone in your office touches it.
Sign-Up Is Where Plan Billing Begins
How plan visits come due and get billed is covered in Billing Yearly Garage Door Tune-Up Plans: Charging the Visit When It Comes Due. This guide is about the step before that: getting the customer signed up with a card already on file.
GarageDoorBossPro gives you two ways in: a sign-up form for your website, and sign-up for services and pricing inside the customer app.
The Website Sign-Up Form
Your website can carry a sign-up form where a homeowner picks a service, such as a yearly tune-up plan, enters their details and the card is captured as part of signing up. The sign-up lands in Form Responses in your office. One click converts it into a client, with the address and the card already attached.
That means no phone tag to collect details, no card number read aloud, and no retyping a form into the system. The customer did the data entry themselves, and they did it at the moment they were most interested.
Your website also has a request form for one-off work like a broken spring or an opener quote. Those requests flow into Form Responses too, alongside sign-ups.
Sign-Up in the Customer App
Existing customers can sign up from the customer app. After a repair, a homeowner who already uses the app to see their invoice can browse your services and pricing and sign up for the tune-up plan there. Their card can already be on file from the repair, or they can add one in the app.
This is the natural follow-on to a good repair visit. The tech fixed the door, the invoice was clear and the card was charged at completion. Now the customer sees the tune-up plan and decides they would rather not have another surprise next winter.
Showing Plan Pricing Clearly
Customers sign up more readily when the price is plain. Show the plan as what it is: a yearly visit at your price, such as a $129 tune-up, with a short list of what the visit covers. Many companies describe the visit using the same items the tech checks on the door safety inspection checklist: springs, cables, rollers, hinges, tracks, balance, the auto-reverse safety test, sensors, opener settings, lubrication, seals and the emergency release.
Be clear about when the card is charged. “Your card is charged after each yearly visit is completed” answers the question every customer has about recurring billing.
What Happens After Sign-Up
Once the sign-up is converted into a client, the plan is set by minimum days between visits, 365 for yearly. The first visit lands on the Waiting List, the office schedules it, and after that each visit comes due on its own. When the tech completes a visit, the invoice is created and the card captured at sign-up can be charged.
The customer gets the same alerts as any other customer: night before, when they are next, and when the tech arrives. They can watch the live route map in the customer app on the day of the visit.
Turning Repair Customers Into Plan Customers
A lot of tune-up customers start as repair customers. A few low-pressure habits help:
- The tech mentions the plan after finishing a repair, without a hard sell.
- The printed Garage Door Safety Inspection report gives the homeowner a reason to have the door checked yearly.
- The office sends a text pointing to the plan sign-up in the customer app.
- Your website puts the sign-up form where homeowners already look, near the repair request form.
Keeping Plan Cards Current
Cards saved at sign-up will sometimes expire before a later visit. Customers can update their card in the customer app, and the office can send a short text if a charge does not go through. More on that in When the Card Expires: Garage Door Customers Updating Their Own Card in the Customer App.
Billing Set Up Before You Pick Up the Phone
When sign-up and card capture happen together, plan billing is ready from day one. The customer is a client, the plan is set, and the card is on file. For the rest of the billing system, visit the garage door invoicing software page.
