The Before-Winter Garage Door Tune-Up Push, Planned in the Software

Fall is when a lot of homeowners start thinking about the house. Gutters, furnace, the drafty spot under the garage door. It is a natural time to offer a tune-up, and many garage door companies run a fall push to sign up new plan customers and get existing ones in before the weather turns. Done right, it can set the schedule for the whole next year.

A Season Built From Slow Weeks

Using tune-ups to fill holes in the week is covered in Filling Slow Weeks on the Schedule With Garage Door Tune-Ups. A before-winter push is the same idea on purpose: you pick a stretch of the calendar and fill it with tune-ups before the season gets busy.

The pitch is easy to understand without overselling. Before winter, a trained tech goes over the door, checks the bottom seal and weatherstripping, runs the safety checks and leaves a written report. No scare stories needed, and no promises about what the cold will or will not do to a door.

Who to Reach

A fall push works best on people who already know you:

Client tags and reports help you pull those lists. Tag customers as you go so next year's list is ready in seconds.

The Message

Automated emails and two-way texting from the office both work for a fall push. Keep it short and specific:

Link new customers to your website sign-up form, which captures the card and lands in Form Responses. One click converts each sign-up into a client. Existing customers can sign up in the customer app too.

Timing matters too. Send the first message early enough that customers can still pick a week that suits them, and space out any follow-ups. A single clear message and one reminder is plenty. Past customers who hear from you five times in a month start ignoring you.

Keep in mind your monthly text allowance. Texts sent and received both count, so a big push to hundreds of past customers can use a good part of it. Email is a good choice for the broad message, with texts saved for replies and scheduling.

Scheduling the Push

As sign-ups come in, the new clients are placed on the map. Existing plan customers who agreed to an early visit can be scheduled from the Waiting List, where not-due-yet pins sit alongside due-now and overdue ones.

Plan the push like a route, not a list. Look for clusters on the map, assign them to a van and a day, and auto-route Closest First or Furthest First from the shop. A day of tune-ups in one neighborhood beats the same number spread across the county.

Remember that doing a visit early resets its clock. Because recurring visits are set by minimum days between visits, a tune-up done in October counts its next 365 days from October. That is a good thing: next year's visit will come due in fall again, right on time for the next push.

What the Tech Focuses On

The door safety inspection checklist is the same on every tune-up. Before winter, two items often lead to the most recommendations: bottom seal & weatherstripping. Cracked or torn seals are easy for a homeowner to see in a photo, and they understand the value right away.

The rest of the checklist stays just as important. Springs, cables & drums, rollers, the auto-reverse safety test, photo-eye sensors and opener force & limits all get checked. The trained tech does the work, and the software records it. Recommendations go on the report and become estimates the customer can approve online. After the Push

Once the fall push is over, take a look at what it did:

The best part of a fall push is that it repeats itself. Every customer who got a tune-up this October will come due again next October, and the push you ran this year becomes next year's base. For how seasonal pushes fit with the rest of the tune-up program, see the garage door maintenance software page.
