Garage Door Plan Sign-Ups in the Customer App, With the Card on File
Every tune-up plan has the same weak spot: the gap between the customer saying “sure” and the customer actually being signed up. If they have to call the office, find a pen, or wait for someone to email them a form, a lot of those yeses never turn into plans. The customer app closes that gap by letting customers sign themselves up.
The Plan Is One More Reason to Use the App
Recommended repairs that do not get approved right away are covered in Following Up on Recommended Repairs After a Garage Door Tune-Up. A customer who is in the habit of using your customer app for estimates and invoices is also the easiest one to sign up for a plan.
In GarageDoorBossPro, customers can sign up for services and pricing in the customer app, such as your yearly tune-up plan. They see the plan at the price you set, choose it, and put a card on file. The plan lands on their client record in the office, ready to come due.
What the Customer Sees
The customer app is more than a sign-up page. A plan customer can use it all year:
- Sign up for services. Your tune-up plan, and anything else you offer for sign-up, at your prices.
- Card on file. Add a card when they sign up and update it later if it expires.
- Invoices and payment. See past invoices and pay online.
- Request service. When the opener starts acting up between tune-ups, they can ask for a visit right there.
- Today's route. On visit day, a live map: “You're stop 12 of 20 — the tech is 5 stops away.”
- Rate and refer. Rate the visit and refer friends and neighbors.
Everything a plan customer would otherwise call the office for is in one place.
Why the Card Matters
A tune-up plan without a card on file is a plan that needs an invoice chased every year. A plan with a card on file can be charged when the tech completes the visit, or on a schedule you set. The office does not have to collect anything, and the customer does not have to remember to pay.
The card also makes the plan feel real to the customer. Signing up with a card is a commitment in a way that “sure, call me next year” is not. Charging is covered in Auto-Charging Garage Door Tune-Up Plans on Completion or on a Schedule.
When a card expires, customers can update it in the customer app themselves. That saves the awkward call when a charge fails, and it keeps the plan running without the office getting involved.
Getting Customers Into the App
The customer app only helps if customers use it. A few easy moments to bring it up:
- At the end of a repair. The tech mentions that the invoice and the tune-up plan are both in the customer app.
- On the invoice. Every invoice is a reminder that the app is there to pay and to sign up.
- In reminder texts. Night-before and on-the-way messages are a natural place to point customers to their live route map.
- After an install. A customer who just bought a new door or opener is a strong candidate for a plan, and the app makes it a few taps.
Alerts the Customer Chooses
Inside the customer app, customers set their own alert preferences: night before, when they're next, and when the tech arrives. Plan customers who only want a heads-up the night before can turn the rest off. Customers who want to know exactly when to open the garage can turn them all on.
Letting the customer choose is respectful, and it means fewer unwanted texts. It also makes sure the right people know a tech is coming, which matters for tune-ups where someone needs to open the garage or move a car out of the bay.
Automatic on-the-way and arrived texts go out from the tech app as the tech works the route, so the alerts the customer picked fire at the right moments without anyone in the office lifting a finger.
From Sign-Up to First Visit
Once a customer signs up, the plan is on their client record. If their doors and opener are already saved on the house from a past repair or install, the first tune-up starts with a full picture. If not, the tech fills them in at the first visit and the changes flow back to the house.
The first visit gets scheduled like any other, through the Waiting List and the dispatch board. After it is completed, the minimum days start counting, and next year's visit comes due on its own. The customer did not have to call anyone, and neither did you.
Some customers will not use the app and would rather sign up on your website. That path is covered next in From the Website Sign-Up Form to a Tune-Up Plan Client in One Click. For the full tune-up program, see the garage door maintenance software page.
