The Tech App in Garage Door Software: What Your Techs Carry on Their Phones

The office can have the best schedule in the world, but the work happens in a garage with a tech on a ladder. Garage door software is only as good as what the tech has in hand. In GarageDoorBossPro, that is the tech app.

The App on the Busiest Days

The tech app is what keeps the days in Fitting Emergency Spring Calls Into a Full Day With Garage Door Software from turning into a string of phone calls. When the office adds a call, it shows up on the tech's phone in its place.

Logging In: Company Login Plus PIN

The tech app runs in the browser on iPhone and Android and can be installed to the home screen. There is no app store download. Techs sign in with your company login and their own personal PIN. That means each job, photo, inspection and clock-in belongs to the tech who did it.

When someone leaves the company, turning off their PIN turns off their access. Access notes like door codes stay behind a login instead of in an old group text.

The Day in Route Order

Each tech sees their own calls for the day in the order set on the dispatch board. When the office moves a job, adds an emergency call or changes the order, the list follows. Each card has a navigation button that opens directions to the address.

A tech finishes one job, looks at the next card, checks the van for parts and goes.

Equipment and Access on Every Card

This is the part built for garage door work. Each job card shows the equipment from the house:

Below that are the access notes, like a side door code, a dog in the back yard or which door is the shop door, plus past notes from earlier visits. The tech reads the card in the driveway instead of calling the office from inside the garage.

Start, Skip, Complete and the Checklist

Three buttons run the day:

In between, the tech can run the door safety inspection checklist, record the readings and condition, write recommendations, update the equipment if anything changed, and take before and after photos. Equipment changes flow back to the house record.

Texts, Payment and the Time Clock

The tech does not have to text the customer. On-the-way and arrived texts go out automatically, based on the alerts each customer chose. Replies go to the office.

When the tech taps Complete, the invoice is created and the card on file can be charged. A homeowner without a card on file can pay online from the customer app. Either way, the tech is not writing a ticket or taking a check at the door.

Techs also clock in and out on the same app, so hours are recorded as they happen. Crew GPS shows where each tech is on the office map.

What the Office Gets Back

Every tap on the tech app shows up in the office. The dispatch board shows which jobs are started, done or skipped. Completed jobs come with photos, notes, the inspection and the invoice. If a tech skipped a job, the reason is right there, and the office can text the customer and reschedule.

This is what replaces the end-of-day phone call where every tech reads back what happened. The office already knows.

Learning It Fast

Garage door techs did not get into the trade to fill out forms on a phone. The tech app asks for a few taps per job and gives back the equipment, the access notes and a quieter phone. Most techs learn it on one ride-along: log in, open the first card, tap navigation, tap Start, run the checklist, take the photos, tap Complete.

The tech app is one part of the system. For how it connects to the office, the Waiting List and billing, see the GarageDoorBossPro garage door software page, and read about the customer side in The Customer App: What Homeowners See When You Run Garage Door Software.
